Wabisa Mutual shares much of its history with Canada, having come into existence a mere twenty days following confederation. On the 20th of July 1867 a meeting was held in the Walpole town hall to organize a mutual fire insurance company. The appointment of agents was first on the agenda of this meeting, and upon appointment, the agents were to receive fifty cents for each application they had approved, while the secretary received a full dollar on each policy issued.
In 1970 when Walpole Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company and Saltfleet & Binbrook Mutual Fire Insurance Company amalgamated to form the Wabisa Mutual of today. It was here that the name Wabisa Mutual originated; Wa- for Walpole, Bi-Binbrook , and Sa – for Saltfleet. The amalgamation officially took place on January 1st 1970.
